FAQ

About SCRMBL

What is SCRMBL?

SCRMBL is a 2-person golf scramble competition featuring multiple standalone events, giving golfers of all levels the chance to compete, have fun, and enjoy a round with a partner under standard golf rules.

  • Both players tee off on each hole
  • The team selects the best shot
  • Both players play their next shot from that location (within one club-length, no closer to the hole)
  • This process continues until the ball is holed
  • On the green, both players putt; the first ball holed counts as the team’s score for that hole
  • One team score is recorded per hole
  • The team with the lowest total score wins

No handicap is required to play in SCRMBL.

All teams compete under the same SCRMBL scramble format. Scoring is standardized for each event, and specific scoring details (gross or net) are communicated prior to the tournament.

Format & Rules

What rules do you follow?

We follow standard PGA / USGA golf rules. The limited modifications for scramble format (best shot / one-club-length) apply.

Tee assignments are standardized for each SCRMBL event and confirmed on the day of play.

For example:

  • Men may play from the designated blue or black tees
  • Senior players (age 60+) may play from the white tees
  • Women may play from the front ladies’ tees

All teams compete using gross score, with no handicaps or slope adjustments.

Negative. Mulligans are NOT permitted in SCRMBL competition.

SCRMBL follows standard competitive scramble rules consistent with USGA guidelines, where all strokes count as played.

No — you may NOT improve your lie.
After selecting your team’s shot, each player may place their ball within one club-length, but must stay in the same lie, same surface, and same conditions, and never closer to the hole.

That means:

  • No moving from rough into fairway
  • No moving from fringe onto the green
  • No moving from sand onto grass
  • No flattening slopes — uphill stays uphill, downhill stays downhill
  • No placing the ball on a cleaner, smoother, or “better” patch of grass

Exception: Plugged or embedded balls

If the selected team ball is plugged (embedded in its own pitch mark):

  • You may take embedded ball relief, consistent with USGA Rules
  • Drop the ball as close as possible to the embedded spot,
  • Same lie category must still be maintained (fairway to fairway, rough to rough, bunker to bunker)
  • Still no improving your lie, and still no closer to the hole

Example: A plugged ball in the rough may be unpluggable but must remain in the rough. A plugged ball in a bunker may be lifted and dropped in the bunker only.

SCRMBL events follow the Official Rules of Golf with select local rules in place to maintain pace of play.

For out-of-bounds shots, players may use a local drop option near where the ball crossed out of bounds, with a penalty applied, instead of re-teeing. Full local rules are reviewed before each event.

Distance-measuring devices are permitted unless otherwise noted.

Scoring & Competition

How are scores verified at SCRMBL events?

During each SCRMBL event, teams exchange scorecards with an opposing team and record each other’s hole-by-hole score. Teams are encouraged to also keep track of their own score for reference throughout the round.

After each hole, teams should confirm scores together to ensure accuracy. At the end of the round, both teams review and sign the official scorecards before submission. All scorecards are reviewed by event staff before results are finalized.

SCRMBL follows standard pace-of-play expectations to keep the event moving smoothly.

Registration & Team Changes

How do I register or change my team’s info?

Register via the home page → select your SCRMBL → checkout. Team name and player info must be provided at checkout. To change partners or names before the event, email us right away.

We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time. Players are welcome to arrive up to 90 minutes early to stretch, warm up, chip and putt, or use the driving range if available at the location.
